Summer at Pyla combines kite, dune and beaches. Afternoon thermal winds, 21°C water, iconic seaside atmosphere. The Pilat Dune attracts crowds — favour early morning to climb it.
Autumn anoints Pyla-sur-Mer as an ideal window. September offers excellent conditions, thinning crowds, golden light on the dune.
Winter at Pyla is contemplative. Misty dune, locals' restaurants, oyster markets.
Winter. 8°C, strong winds but uncomfortable conditions (12°C water). Opportunistic sessions for locals equipped in 5/4 mm hooded.
Same as January. Frequent storms — winds too strong or too irregular.
Winter exit. 12°C, organising thermal winds, first comfortable sessions with 4/3 mm.
Resumption. 14°C, steady 15-20 knot winds, schools reopening. 4/3 wetsuit.
Excellent. 17°C, afternoon thermal winds (15-22 knots), water at 16-17°C. 3/2 mm.
Spring peak. 21°C, longest days, ideal conditions.
Summer (24°C). Afternoon thermal winds, water at 19-21°C, summer atmosphere. Spot crowds.
Tourist peak. Same conditions as July, maximum attendance.
The crown jewel. 22°C, thinning crowds, sustained winds, water still warm. One of the year's best windows.
Excellent. 17°C, autumnal winds, golden light. For those appreciating more sporting conditions.
