Atlantic winter. 2–3.5 m swells on exposed spots (Conche des Baleines), water at 11–12°C. A few low-tide windows for well-equipped intermediates in 5/4 mm.
February+
Sustained winter conditions. Water at 11°C, grey skies. Île de Ré stays accessible but sessions are short and demanding.
March+
Pivot. 1.2–2 m swells, water at 12°C. Le Lizay and Trousse-Chemise regain an accessible tempo. Near-empty lineups, the island awakening.
April+
Spring settles. 1–1.5 m swells, water at 13–14°C. Excellent for easing back in a peaceful setting. Wind varies by sector.
May+
Pivot month. 0.8–1.4 m swells, water at 15–16°C, long days. The island revives, colourful markets, dawn sessions on exposed spots.
June+
Excellent compromise. Consistent 0.7–1.2 m swells, water at 17–18°C, light crowds before peak season. Ré surfing is more measured than Aquitaine.
July+
Summer waves (0.5–1 m), water at 20°C. Crowds peak but the island stays elegant. Dawn sessions, then cycling, beaches, markets.
August+
Tourist peak. Small waves, water at 22°C. For intermediates, time to favour dawn sessions or chase swell anomalies on the western spots.
September+
The crown jewel. Autumn swells (1.2–2 m), water at 19°C, thinning crowds from early September. Le Lizay and La Conche des Baleines regain their tempo.
October+
Premium conditions. 1.5–2.5 m swells, water at 17°C, near-empty beaches, golden Atlantic light. Excellent for technical sessions.
November+
Mature autumn. 1.8–3 m swells, water at 14–15°C. La Conche des Baleines delivers its major days, intimate atmosphere.
December+
Storms return. 2.5–4 m swells, water at 12°C, conditions often beyond intermediate save for the most sheltered spots.
