January+
Rainy and closed winter. Many châteaux open by appointment only, temperatures around 7°C, short days. Good season for discreet cellar visits and tastings of vintages in barrel, but gardens are dormant.
February+
Conditions identical to January. Vineyards stay at rest, pruning work in full swing. For those seeking confidential visits away from crowds, an interesting season requiring substantial booking notice.
March+
Winter exit. First buds, rising temperatures (12°C), Primeurs Salons in full activity. Châteaux open their first visit wave of the year. Studious atmosphere, ideal for connoisseurs.
April+
The Primeurs month. Primeurs Week welcomes négociants and professionals from around the world. For private visitors, the atmosphere is intense — bookings required months ahead. Vineyards turning green again, temperatures at 15°C.
May+
Excellent month. Vineyards in full growth, château gardens in bloom, ideal temperatures at 18°C, lengthening days. Visits deploy fully, Bordeaux mood at its peak: markets, terraces, twilight dinners.
June+
Spring peak. Exceptional light, lush vineyards, 22°C temperatures, longest days. Bordeaux's starred chefs at full form, châteaux organising themed dinners and concerts.
July+
Hot summer (28°C average, up to 35°C peaks). Vineyards entering véraison. Visits continue but afternoon thermal discomfort pushes towards morning visits and extended terrace evenings.
August+
Heat peak (often 30-38°C) and summer closure of part of the châteaux. Many estates close to the public to prepare for harvest. For wine tourism, the least recommended month.
September+
The major return. Early-variety harvests (Merlot first), tastings in working cellars, temperatures dropping to 22°C. One of the most authentic seasons to discover Bordeaux in its production rhythm.
October+
Reference month. Harvests in full activity (Cabernet Sauvignon last), leaves turning, golden light on the grands crus. Visits take an almost cinematographic dimension. Temperatures still mild (18°C), autumnal gastronomy.
November+
End of harvests. First tastings of fermenting musts, calmer atmosphere in the cellars. Temperatures at 12°C, first frosts late in the month. Good period for confidential visits with winemakers.
December+
Bordeaux winter. Temperatures around 8°C, châteaux closed or by appointment. Bordeaux centre, however, offers Christmas markets, warm wine bistros, and the luxury of the city without summer crowds.
