Winter exit. First buds, temperatures at 11°C, lengthening days. Bergerac and Monbazillac estates gradually reopen. Spring markets announcing the first asparagus.
April+
Spring settled. Vineyards turning green, medieval châteaux in their green setting, temperatures at 14°C. Périgord white asparagus and first lamb season. Perched villages (Domme, La Roque-Gageac) emerge from their winter torpor.
May+
Excellent month. Ideal temperatures (18°C), lush vineyards, blooming gardens, colourful markets. The Dordogne reveals all its beauty then — ochre cliffs overlooking the river, Renaissance châteaux, picturesque villages. Ideal period before summer crowds arrive.
June+
Spring peak. Exceptional light, temperatures at 22°C, longest days. Monbazillac estates (legendary sweet wines) and Bergerac (reds and dry whites) at full activity. Summer festivals beginning.
July+
Hot summer (28°C average). Maximum crowds in the region, denser tastings but bookings mandatory. The Dordogne River becomes a central activity: canoeing, swimming, riverside dinners. Book villas and restaurants well ahead.
August+
Tourist and heat peak (up to 35°C). Heavy attendance at châteaux and markets. For those visiting this season, favour morning visits and late dinners. Lascaux cave coolness offers a welcome climatic respite.
September+
The major return. Bergerac and Monbazillac harvests (sweet wines need early September frosts to develop noble rot), thinning crowds, temperatures dropping to 22°C. One of the most beautiful seasons.
October+
Reference month. Golden foliage, harvests in full activity, first summer white truffles (Tuber aestivum), gastronomy turning to game and ceps. Exceptional Périgord light, temperatures at 16°C, intimate atmosphere regained.
November+
Season's end. Temperatures at 11°C, first black truffles, autumn gourmet markets. Quieter estates, privileged access to winemakers. Winter comfort becomes noticeable — favour villas with fireplaces.
December+
Gourmet winter. Christmas markets, black truffle at its best, starred restaurants in full activity, châteaux closing or opening by appointment. For exceptional gastronomy lovers, a fascinating season.
