Bergerac
Bergerac is the second-largest town in the Dordogne, set on the banks of the river of the same name in the Périgord Pourpre wine country. Designated a Town of Art and History in 2013, it has a well-preserved old town around Place Pélissière and the Église Saint-Jacques, and is famously watched over by two statues of Cyrano de Bergerac. The surrounding vineyards produce twelve recognised appellations — including Bergerac, Côtes-de-Bergerac, Monbazillac and Saussignac — making the town one of the great wine bases of southwestern France.
