Arcangues
Arcangues is a small Basque village in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, set in the rolling hills of Labourd a few kilometres inland from Biarritz and Bayonne. With around 3,700 inhabitants, it has kept the quiet character of an inland Basque commune: a 12th-century church flanked by traditional hilarri headstones, the Château d'Arcangues that once sheltered the Duke of Wellington, and a celebrated golf course laid out among the surrounding farmland. The singer Luis Mariano, closely associated with the village, is buried here.
